Gel polish is a new nail product taking the nail industry by storm! Increasingly popular due to fact it’s so convenient, long-lasting and worry-free…
It is a hybrid; meaning half nail polish, half gel. The product is thin enough to be applied similarly to nail polish, but it is cured in a way that gives it great flexibility and durability. It can only be cured by a lamp with UV light or LED light.
Prior to application, a pH balancing agent (containing isopropyl alcohol) is used to stabilize the moisture level of the nail, removing any oils from the natural nail plate.
The Gel Polish has adhesive properties that attract to the keratin in the natural nail acting as a 2 sided tape to adhere the Gel Polish to the natural nail plate.
With that in mind, no, it doesn't harm your nails if removed correctly, however, if you were to deliberately pick the polish off, this will inevitably take off the top layer of your natural nail with it, thus thinning your natural nail plate and leaving ridges if constantly picked.
Best thing to do? Have them removed correctly and professionally in less than 15 minutes!
A base coat is first applied, followed by two thin coats of polish, finished by the top coat and cleansed afterwards with Gel Cleanser (containing Isopropyl Alcohol) to remove any sticky residue.
Each coat after application is placed under an LED lamp to cure and harden.
We use an artificial nail remover solution which contains Acetone.
Proper removal is usually only 15 minutes, this may take less time or more time depending on the length of nails and brand of Gel Polish. However, removal by a manicurist decreases the time spent soaking-off and may be less of an inconvenience for you.
After removal, it is highly recommended to follow up with a manicure for rehydration.

Acrylic is a form of enhancement. Acrylic nails are often used to mask a nail problem (peeling, splitting, flexible) It is ideally for those looking to lengthen their nails.
Gel polish is for people who want to maintain their natural nails. You cannot use Gel polish to create a longer nail. Gel polish isn't ideal for clients with extremely damaged nail beds, split or peeling nails. If your nail is peeling off considerably, it will take the polish with it.
